2017 TE ORA/PHARMAC Summer Student Internship Programme

Recipients of the Summer Student Internship Programme can receive up to $5,000 paid as an educational grant, with the aim of encouraging excellence in research.

In 2016, Te ORA, in association with PHARMAC, launched an annual Summer Student Internship Programme (SSIP) with the aim of encouraging research in the field of pharmaceuticals.

Te ORA and PHARMAC now welcomes applications for the Summer Student Internship Programme 2017 where up to two recipients will be awarded $5000 to be paid as an educational grant.

The internship is a 10-week student research project where Tauira Rata will be mentored by a Te ORA clinician during their internship, commencing December 2017 and ending February 2018.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Identify as Māori.
  • Be currently enrolled at the University of Otago or the Auckland University Medical Schools.
  • Be a current financial member of Te ORA (Māori Medical Practitioners Association).
  • Submit an essay of up to 1000 words.  (This essay may be an extension of the research idea submitted for Te Tohu Whaioranga Rangahau award).
  • Complete the on-line application form and attach all relevant documentation.

Submit the essay and application form no later than 5pm, Friday 17th November 2017.

The essay should include information about your whakapapa and your views and ideas for research about one of the following kaupapa:

  • barriers to accessing medicines,
  • the benefits, outcomes or harm from medicines, due to the misuse, overuse or underuse of medicines,
  • patient experiences of medicines or any combination of medicine,
  • pharmaceuticals and health equity

All applications will be considered by Te ORA Awards Committee whose decision is final.  The recipient will be advised no later than 20th November 2017.  The award will be presented at the Te ORA Hui-ā-Tau by PHARMAC and Te ORA representatives.
