GP17 Conference - Te Akoranga a Māui Scholarships for Māori Medical Students

Te Akoranga a Māui, the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners' Māori representative group, is pleased to announce ten Māori medical student scholarships to attend this year's Conference for General Practice in Ōtepoti (Dunedin), 27 – 30th July.

This is the only GP conference that's presented by GPs for GPs. It attracts our most established practitioners who hold the practice budgets, make the calls on business decisions and expenditure, and run the biggest practices in New Zealand.

The conference is about developing the profession strategically, rather than simply collecting professional development points. The theme of this year’s conference is: Whakamanawatia. Ma te mahi ngatahi, ka whakatutuki. (Inspire. Invent. Intertwine) - Working together we can do great things.

Te Akoranga a Māui is offering ten scholarships (five to Otago and five to Auckland) to Māori medical students to attend the Conference. Each scholarship will cover associated conference registration, accommodation and travel, conference dinner costs for awarded recipients.

To apply you must:

  • Identify as Māori.
  • Be currently enrolled at either the University of Otago or the Auckland University medical school.
  • Be a current financial member of Te ORA (Māori Medical Practitioners Association).
  • Have written permission (email is acceptable) to attend the Conference from your respective medical school representative. This is to ensure there are no clashes with your classes.
  • Provide a short statement (maximum of 500 words) on why you would like to attend the GP conference and what benefit this opportunity would be to you as a Māori medical student.
  • Submit a completed application form.

Successful applicants will be required to provide a written report to Te Akoranga a Māui reflecting on what they learned at the Conference.

The close off date is 5pm, Friday 16 June 2017. Please send your completed application form and associated documentation to:
