ANNOUNCING THE RACP PRESIDENT’S INDIGENOUS CONGRESS PRIZE!!!

In 2015, The Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) is offering the RACP President’s Indigenous Congress Prize to medical students, junior medical officers and physician trainees who identify as being of Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander or Māori descent. The Prize will support attendance at the RACP Congress 2015, which will take place from 24th to 27th May in Cairns, North Queensland.
The purpose of this initiative is to:
• Provide an educational opportunity
• Network with peers and meeting influential healthcare professionals
• Develop an awareness of career opportunities as a physician and the activities of the RACP
• Raise awareness and initiatives undertaken by the RACP towards the Australian Federal Government’s Close the Gap – Indigenous Health Equality Summit (2008), for more information click here.
• Support an understanding of the health of Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and Māori peoples
Prize
• Return economy airfares from your nearest capital city to Cairns.
• Accommodation at a hotel nominated by the Congress Managers (3 nights)
• Full Trainee Registration (4 days) or Medical Student Registration (4 days)
Eligibility and Requirements
1. Applicants must identify as being of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander or Māori descent
2. Applicants must be studying, researching or working in a field of medicine, medical science or medical education at an undergraduate, postgraduate or trainee level.
3. Applicants are required to complete the application form and provide a written submission (approximately 500 words) as to what benefit(s) attending the RACP Congress would provide. This should include aspects such as:
• Current and future commitment to indigenous activities
• Interest in pursuing a career interacting with indigenous people
• Interest in pursuing training with the College
• Relevance to current stage of training or medical career.
4. Applicants are required to provide two letters of reference supporting their application. These may be of a medical or cultural nature.
5. Applicants must provide a current CV (up to three pages).
6. Applications will be assessed by a selection panel including College Fellows and invited Indigenous representation.
7. Applicants will be advised of the outcome of their application by the end of April, following the decision of the selection panel.
