Cure Kids Chair in Child Health Research

The University of Auckland and Cure Kids are seeking to appoint a leading academic, who has demonstrated international eminence in the area of child health, to the Cure Kids Chair of Child Health Research.
The Chair dates back over four decades, and is a key leadership position, with the appointee expected to develop and facilitate a programme of internationally-recognised research leading to the discovery and application of new knowledge that improves the health of children in Aotearoa New Zealand and beyond.
The successful applicant (appointed at either Associate or full Professor level) will contribute to research-informed teaching, research, graduate supervision, service and leadership within the University, while also playing an advocacy role for Cure Kids’ work as a child health research funder. Clinical qualifications are not essential, but the role may be combined with clinical responsibilities, if desired by a candidate who is vocationally registrable with the New Zealand Medical Council.
The Chair will be an expert in a field relevant to priority child health issues in Aotearoa New Zealand, as well as of importance internationally. Applicants should clearly demonstrate how their research expertise is directly relevant to the health and wellbeing of the children and/or young people of Aotearoa New Zealand (this includes fetal, maternal, perinatal, infant, child and adolescent health); and how it would help address inequity in health outcomes as this becomes increasingly important nationally and internationally.
The successful candidate will have the personal credibility and skills to provide leadership and continue to build the national and international profile of the University of Auckland and Cure Kids in this area.

This Chair of Child Health Research is one of four academic Chairs supported by Cure Kids, delivering programmes of research related to paediatric genetics, child and adolescent mental health, and paediatric gastroenterology.
