Applications now open for Te Tohu Rangahau (Tauira Award for Excellence in Research)

Recipients of the Te Tohu Whaioranga Rangahau can receive up to $5,000 paid as an educational grant, with the aim of encouraging excellence in research.

Te ORA and PHARMAC welcome applications for this award which seeks to recognise and acknowledge our Tauira Rata (Māori Medical Students) for excellence in a research idea relating to Māori health and Pharmaceuticals. 

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Identify as Māori.
  • Be currently enrolled at the University of Otago or the Auckland University Medical Schools.
  • Be a current financial member of Te ORA (Māori Medical Practitioners Association).Submit a 500 word essay
  • Submit the essay and application form no later than 5pm, Friday 17th November 2017.

The 500-word essay should include information about your whakapapa and your views and ideas for research about one of the following kaupapa:

  • barriers to accessing medicines,the benefits, outcomes or harm from medicines, due to the misuse, overuse or underuse of medicines,
  • patient experiences of medicines or any combination of medicine,
  • pharmaceuticals and health equity

All applications will be considered by Te ORA Awards Committee whose decision is final.  The recipient will be advised no later than 20th November 2017.  The award will be presented at the Te ORA Hui-ā-Tau by PHARMAC and Te ORA representatives.

The recipient of this award may choose to extend the research idea to the Summer Student Internship grant for 2017.  Tauira interested in applying for the studentship are required to submit an essay of (up to) 1000 words, and complete the Summer Student Internship application form.

 (It is expected that the recipient will attend the Hui-ā-Tau Awards Dinner 2017 to receive their award.  Te ORA will cover the costs of registration and travel to Hui-ā -Tau).
