COVID-19 – Update – Move to Alert Level 4

Move to Alert Level 4 – eliminate at midnight

New Zealand will move to Alert Level 4 – Eliminate, at midnight tonight.

Our message is clear – stay home, save lives. New Zealanders not working in essential services must stay at home and stop all interactions with others outside of their household.

As a nation, we need to consider the highest levels of manaakitanga in our response to COVID-19.  The easiest way to show manaakitanga to your whānau right now, is to stay home and help slow the progress of the virus. That is the best approach to keep our communities safe.

I want to reassure you that supermarkets, doctors, pharmacies, service stations and access to essential banking services will all still be available.

You may go for a walk or exercise and enjoy nature, but always make sure to keep a 2-metre distance from people. Police may be monitoring this and asking questions of people who were out and about.

Remember, whatever you do must be solitary. We’re asking that you only spend time with those who you are in self-isolation with, and keep your distance from others at all times.
