Kia hiwa rā, kia hiwa rā!

Tenā tatou e te whānau,

Te ORA looks forward to welcoming you to our Hui-ā-Tau & Scientific Conference 2025 at Te Wānanga o Raukawa in Ōtaki, 25 – 28 September 2025.

As always, Hui-ā-Tau & Scientific Conference 2025 will provide a space to engage, connect and celebrate the strength and brilliance of our Māori medical community.

Theme

Hokia ki ō maunga kia pūrea e koe ngā hau a Tāwhirimātea
Return to your mountain to be cleansed by the winds of Tāwhirimātea

As Māori medical practitioners, we are often exposed to unique pressures and responsibilities — not only within our clinical settings, but also within our whānau and the communities we serve.

This year’s theme speaks to the importance of replenishment, reconnection, and cultural grounding. In the face of burnout, isolation, and structural inequity, we return to our maunga, our awa, and our people to find balance.

We invite abstracts and presentations that reflect on this theme — how we remain grounded, reconnect with our kaupapa, and draw strength from our identity as Māori in medicine.

Oral presentations

Oral presentations will be approximately 20 minutes, with adequate time for discussion. Exact times will be discussed with successful applicants. Standard audio-visual equipment will be available: Laptop, data projector with sound, DVD, lectern and microphone. OHP and slide projectors will not be provided.

Selection Criteria

All abstracts will be assessed according to the following criteria:

  • Relevance to conference theme
  • Importance of presentation topic
  • Relevance of content to the audience and to Te ORA
  • Abstracts submitted by Māori doctors and students will be prioritised
  • Presentations may be in te reo Pākehā or te reo Māori
