THE 2014 CONFERENCE IS ALMOST HERE! The 6th Biennial Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga international research and development conference is now less than four weeks away (Tuesday 25th November – Friday 28th November). However there are only two weeks left to register via our website. Online registrations close at midnight on Sunday 16th November (NZ time). This year the conference will highlight indigeneity and the multidisciplinary approach used for indigenous development, and will be hosted at the University of Auckland in the Owen Glenn Building and at Waipapa Marae. Accompanying the 10 keynote presenters, will be more than 170 academics, researchers, authors, experts and practitioners, who will conduct over 150 presentations, panel sessions, round-tables, poster presentations and general talks over the four days of the conference. In addition to this we will be celebrating 10 years of Indigenous Scholarship with an event for AlterNative – An International Journal of Indigenous Peoples, at 7pm on Tuesday 25th November. On the Wednesday evening, we will be conducting a Research Showcase at the marae – which will highlight many of Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga’s most recent projects and what they have delivered for their communities. On Thursday 27th November we will be holding our famous conference dinner, which this year will take us down to the waterfront, the heart of Auckland City, for a taste of quintessential NZ food in the casual surroundings of Seafood Central. The open air courtyard will encourage all the delegates to mix and mingle, whilst enjoying a variety of specialties, including NZ’s renowned Tio (Pacific Oysters) and Koura (Crayfish). Rather than having a guest speaker at the dinner, we will be providing some of our own cultural entertainment on the night, but we will also encourage our delegates to perform a cultural item of their own if they wish. We want to celebrate our indigeneity and are looking forward to hosting you all. With just 2 weeks left before online registrations close on the 16th November, we recommend you register now! |
